Master Corporal Adam Michael Andrew Grant, CD (Retired)
August 31, 1984 – May 6, 2025
Aged 40 | Resided in Aylesford, Nova Scotia | Born in Kentville, Nova Scotia
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Master Corporal Adam Michael Andrew Grant, CD (Retired), who passed away at home on May 6, 2025, at the age of 40.
Adam was the beloved son of Heather Hudgins-Rogers (Stephen) and the late Brian Grant (Judy Kavanaugh).
Adam is deeply missed by his son, Oliver Grant, and Oliver's mom, Chelsea Brewster. Also left to grieve are his brothers Leigh (Kimberley) Grant of Hammonds Plains, Kristopher Grant of Lévis, Quebec, and Justin Grant of Rockland; stepsisters Lisa (Troy) Lightfoot of Coldbrook, Katie McNeil (Anthony Smith) of Winnipeg, and stepbrother David Lord (Cheryl) of Kentville. He was a beloved uncle to Patrick and Kayleigh Grant, Cohen and Hunter Grant, Riley Lightfoot, Zarah Smith, Jaya and Valen. Adam is also survived by his great-grandmother, "GG" Janet Hudgins of Halifax, many loving aunts, uncles, and extended family.
As well as his father, Adam was predeceased by maternal grandparents Betty and Bill Hudgins and Bev and Gwen Milner; paternal grandparents Mary and George Grant; his Aunt Gayle Bartlett (née Milner); his Uncle Andrew Grant and his bestie, Larry.
Father
It would be hard to put into words how much he loved being a father to Oliver. His heart belonged to his son. Adam often said, "There were two things I wanted to be in life: a father and a soldier—I've accomplished both". He lived each day for Oliver, ending every night with a call — a ritual he treasured most. Together, they were a familiar sight in Kentville, visiting the shops, delivering bits n' bites at Christmas, chatting with neighbors, and sharing laughter. Oliver spent time with his dad at Aldershot, where the 'kitchen ladies' always made a special fuss over him.
Uncle
When it came to his nieces and nephews, Adam had all the time in the world. Whether it was an outdoor adventure, reading stories, or just making meals and having fun, he gave himself fully to the time he spent with them. He read their bedtime stories, cooked their meals, played, and laughed alongside them—always "all in." It's even been said he was their favorite uncle.
Soldier
"Adam served with honor in the West Nova Scotia Regiment at Camp Aldershot. He wore his uniform with pride, serving his country with dignity and unwavering resolve. As his mother, I was deeply proud to watch him march — each step a reflection of his strength, commitment, and character. One of his cherished duties was laying wreaths at every Remembrance Day service in memory of his great-grandfather, Capt. Jack Hudgins, and his grandfather, Bill Hudgins—a tradition he never missed. Adam loved being outdoors in all seasons. He found peace in sleeping under the stars with his comrades, fishing by the river, and rafting with Oliver. Sitting by the fire after a long day outside was 'The best day ever'.
A Mother's Wish
Adam, I hope your heaven is filled with sunshine, kindness, and peace. May it be a place with no pain—just days spent by the riverbank, fishing, sharing stories with friendly folks who are passing by and feeling the warmth of love all around you. I hope your soul is surrounded by those who went before you, and that your struggles are finally at rest. Oliver and I will carry a piece of you in our hearts forever, but your heavenly family will take care of you now especially your Uncle Andrew who will surely go fishing and camping with you.
