UHLMAN, Alena Mary, Age 95 - formerly of Reagh Avenue, Middleton. Current resident of Heart of the Valley, Long Term Care Centre, passed away suddenly as a result of a fall on July 3, 2012. Born in Nineveh, Lunenburg County, NS on April 5, 1917. She grew up in North Brookfield. She was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Nellie (Crouse) Fancy. Alena came to Middleton for employment at the Scotian Gold Cannery. She was a member of St. John's United Church, Middleton. She was a past President and member of the Middleton Legion Auxiliary Branch #1. Family and friends were the centre of Alena's life. She gave birth to 4 of her children at the family homestead in Torbrook, NS. She is survived by sons, Malcolm (June) Fancy, Brampton, ON; Martin (Cheryl), Peterborough, ON; Paul (Donna) Middleton; daughters, Gloria (George) Dennis, Comox, BC; Linda (Bob) Boutilier , Middleton, NS; Marcia (Grant) Edwards, Brampton, ON; 10 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great, Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; sister, Doris Selig, Port Mouton and sister-in-law Melva Fancy, Liverpool. Predeceased by sister, Lillian Bollong (Archie) and brothers, Roy, Lawrence (Reggie), George. She was predeceased by husband Cecil Martin and infant son. She was rarely on the losing side of a game of cards - cribbage, 45's and Skip-bo. She did the Herald crossword puzzle on the morning of her death (a morning ritual) - enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening, loved baking and cooking for family gatherings. She was an avid Blue Jays fan, loved to watch and feed the birds and deer in her back yard. The family wish to thank the staff and nurses at the Middleton Long Term Care Home, Dr. Paul McGuire and the special attention Alena received at the Kentville and Middleton hospitals. Alena's remains are resting at Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448 where visitation will be held Saturday, July 7th, 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place Sunday, July 8th at 2:00 pm at the Middleton Funeral Home, Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. A private interment for immediate family will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery Middleton. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, Halifax.
