Obituary

Alex "Al" Winfred Peterson

15 February 1944 – 24 June 2023

Peterson, Alex "Al" Winfred - After living a full and varied but all to short life, Al passed away on 24 June 2023 at the Valley Hospice site in Kentville with his best friend and faithful companion Heather by his side.

The last living member of his immediate family Al was born 15 February 1944.  He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Jennie (Begges) Peterson of Edmonton, his sister Myrtle (Roy Jacula) and his brother Russel (Theresa) Peterson.  Predeceased by the mother of his children Sandra, Al leaves behind his four sons Shawn (Wendy), Scott (Carolin), Patrick (Cynthia) and EJ and their respective children.

Upon diagnosis of his three different types of cancer in June 2022 Al was only given three to six months to fulfill his bucket list.  Never one to succumb to rules he was with us for twelve months which his friends attributed to the dedication of Heather.  Al was his joyful quiet self throughout his battle never complaining, always with a smile and hello to all and remaining sharp as a tack, a true gentleman and friend.

Al had a distinguished 34 year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Integrated Electronics/Integrated Systems Technician serving in Zweibrucken Germany, Ottawa, Goose Bay, North Bay, Cold Lake and Comox.  Upon retirement he worked at the Royal Canadian Legion in Kingston as a Bartender, Branch Manager then Custodian of the Building with his good friend John A and his latest job was at the Kingston Pharmasave in the wine making department until his health declined. He was a member of the RCL Br #98 where he served many Executive positions finishing off as Branch President from 2018 thru 2022.  Those who knew Al well would let you know the Legion was his home away from home.

In keeping with Al's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Legion service will be held followed by a reception at 2p.m. Thursday July 6th, at the Royal Canadian Legion, 1472 Veteran's Lane in Kingston. Rev. Leon Langille officiating.  (Please wear something blue in his memory).  Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice in Kentville.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-3448.  The online guestbook may be signed by visiting www.middletonfuneralhome.com .

For those unable to attend the service a 'live streaming' of the service will be available beginning at 1:55 ADT on our website under 'Live Stream' Option.
