Obituary

MacASKILL, Alexander John "Alex" ~ Age 94, of Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on February 8, 1925, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Dolena (MacLeod) MacAskill and the love of his life, his wife, Honey (Dill). Alex was a well-known, kind and respected man in the Berwick area. He was a graduate of Mount Allison, Acadia and Dalhousie Universities, playing hockey for Mount Allison. Alex had taught school in various locations but will be remembered as principal for 25 years at Dwight Ross School. Always a sports enthusiast, he was a Boston Red Sox fan being a member of the Valley Boston Red Sox Fan Club as well as a season ticket holder of Acadia Axemen hockey.  Alex had been active in Army Cadets and as a sports coach. He was a long-time active member of Berwick & District Lions Club and volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic and Meals on Wheels.  Surviving are sons, Arnie (Maureen) MacAskill, Lacombe, AB; John (Cherrie) MacAskill, Berwick; daughters, Dona Lea (James) Hawkes, Berwick; Bonnie (the late Greg) Best-Fisher, Garland; Sandi (Scott) Frazee, Cambridge; grandchildren, Kenzie (Brian), Dani (Drew), Angie (Chad), Ashlea (Ryan), D.J. (Katie), Shannon (Kevin), Megan (Bremner), Jessie (Matt), Kelsey (Jon), Deidra and Brandon; 16 great-grandchildren; special friend, Eleanor MacDonald, Port Morien; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends and family in Windsor, N.S. and in Lacombe, Alberta. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by sons-in-law,  Bernie Sanford, Gregory Fisher, Carmie Best; brother, John (Eleanor) MacAskill. A time in celebration of Alex's life will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in Berwick & District Lions Club (Kings Mutual Century Centre), 225 Veterans Drive, Berwick. Interment will be in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to Berwick & District Lions Club.
