Ogilvie
July 1, 1932 – January 21, 2026
On January 21, 2026, Alice Helena Ogilvie, age 93, of Burlington, Kings County passed away peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
She was the eldest daughter of Lester and Ellen Hird of Garland, and a long standing and faith filled member of the Burlington Baptist Church and served in many capacities. She studied to become a teacher at Normal College in Truro and later taught in Burlington, Chipman Brook, and Lovelace Corner. She married Malcolm Ogilvie of Burlington in 1952. On their farm, they raised four boys David, Steven, Mark, and Daniel. She had many interests, a few of which included sewing and knitting which she did to perfection. Gospel and old country songs she enjoyed, and she learned to play guitar, wrote songs, and was very good at yodelling. Farming became her life, working in the fields, planting, growing and harvesting, besides tending to the farm animals.
Surviving are husband, Malcolm Ogilvie; sons, David (Carla) Ogilvie, Steven (Kathy) Ogilvie, Daniel Ogilvie; grandchildren, Shane (Candace) Ogilvie, Nicole Ogilvie, Andrew Ogilvie, Alyssa Swindell, and Jordan Ogilvie; special mention to Tabitha Jackson, great grandchildren: Donovan Ogilvie, Kalum Ogilvie, Nixie Ogilvie; and many nieces and nephews; sisters: Flora (Ed) Thurston, Betty Doucet, Norma Sturk, and Nancy Sanford.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lester and Ellen Hird; infant brother, Arthur, brother, Kenneth (Kay) Hird; son Mark Ogilvie; grandsons, Dustin Ogilvie and Malcolm Ogilvie; brothers-in-law, Budd Sanford, Richard Doucet, and John Sturk.
A special thank you is extended to the staff and Dr. Targett of Grand View Manor for their care and thoughtfulness during her stay there. Much appreciation and gratitude to the doctors and staff in Emerg and Medical C Unit at Valley Regional Hospital for their special care and compassion.
Funeral Service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448 with Rev. Dr. Harry Gardner officiating. Interment will be in the Burlington Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Burlington Community Center.
