Allan Lee
"Al" Martin
May 8, 1950 – April 11, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan "Al" Martin of New Albany, Nova Scotia, formerly of Windsor, Ontario, on Friday, April 11, 2025, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Al was born May 8, 1950, in Windsor, Ontario. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Carol Martin (Wilson); and his beloved dogs, Bailey and Charlie; sisters, Margaret Dawson, Diane Mlinaric (Zdravko); brother, Ernie Martin (Kathy); in-laws, Karen Quesnel, Wendy Benson (Glen), and Steve Wilson (Janeen) and many nieces and nephews who he enjoyed visiting with when they came to Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Ernest Martin; father in-law, David (Red) Wilson; mother in-law, Beverly Wilson; and brothers-in-law, Don Dawson and David Wilson; and many fur babies. Al worked for Windsor Fire and Rescue in Ontario for 34 ½ years. He retired in 2007 as Captain Fire Rescue. While Al was working, he was always learning. He obtained numerous Firefighter and Rescue Certificates, and he earned his BSc from the University of Windsor despite having dyslexia. Al's hobbies were numerous including camping, pottery and baking. Unfortunately, Al fought a long battle with Alzheimer's, but he never lost his gentle nature. If there is one bright light through this disease it was the people we met in the Alzheimer's support groups. Love them all, especially Peggy and Vickie whose support was immeasurable. We wish to thank the staff at the Veterans Unit at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion during his stay there and Dr. Drysdale and the amazing staff at Greenwood Collaborative Practice. We also wish to thank our neighbours and friends for their help and support. Special thank you to Angie Burns and Karla Dehmel who were instrumental in providing the care that allowed Al to stay home for much longer than would have ever been possible without them. As per Al's wishes there will be no service. Donations to Alzheimer Society or the Pet Charity of your choice can be made in his honour. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
