FORTIN, André Jules "Andy" - age 86, of Auburn, NS passed away peacefully Saturday, October 4, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville surrounded by his family. Born in Montreal, QC he was the son of the late Jules and Elsa (Matthys) Fortin. Andy retired after 22 years of service with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an IE Technician. He later worked for G.W. Sampson Ltd., Kingston as well as Maple Ford, Middleton. Andy, along with his wife, Shirley, opened and operated the Red Sleigh Tack Shop in 1972. He was a well known member of the horse community and could be found chatting with friends and customers in his tack shop right up until last Thursday. Andy was a former 4-H leader, square dancer and a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, No. 107 Valley Wing. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Shirley O'Neill, Auburn; his daughters, Joanne Fortin (Danny Spinney), Greenwood; Carol (Les) Boyd, Coldbrook and Kimberley Fortin, Auburn; his grandchildren, James Boyd, Peggy's Cove; Heather (Chris) Jobe, Amherst, and Caleb Lewis, Halifax; his great grandson, Owen Jobe and his cousin Doris Dufort, Montreal, QC. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sons-in-law, Jamie Burton and Fred Lewis. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7:00PM-9:00PM Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where a memorial service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, October 8, 2014 with Rev. Michael Mugford officiating. A reception for family & friends will follow the service. By request, family flowers only please.
