BALCOMB, Anna Wilhemina (Anne)- 82, passed away at her home in Middleton on Tuesday, April 5, 2011with her loving children at her side, Anne won her peace after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Hilversum, the Netherlands on November 11, 1928 the daughter of Hendrikus and Agatha Toes. Anne immigrated to Canada in 1949 as a war bride, marrying her husband- Fred, whom she met at the end of the war as a teenager. She enjoyed reading, knitting, needlepoint and music, especially classical and that of the Big Band Era. She was very active in the Conservative Party with Fred. She was also very proud of her Dutch heritage and was an active member of the War-Brides Association for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Ingrid Balcomb, Maynard, Mass; sons, James (Annemarie) Grand-Bay-Westfield, NB; brother, Marcus, Laren, the Netherlands; granddaughter, Jennifer (Nathan) Pfleegor; grandson, Nicholas Balcomb; great granddaughters, Meeka and Kya and great grandson, Luke. Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Fred; granddaughter, Amanda Romney; brothers, Dick, Ben and Little Marcus and sister Mariska. There will be no visitation by request of the family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 7:00PM, Friday, April 8, 2011 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
