Obituary

McIVER, Annie "Evelyn" - age 73, of Somerset, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014, at home. Born on September 29, 1940, in River Hebert, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Annie (Hayward) McIver. Evelyn graduated from high school at the Baptist Bible Training School, Moncton, N.B. She attended Business School in Winnipeg, Man., then worked for three years with Construction Equipment in Halifax. Evelyn entered Nursing School at Montreal General Hospital, graduating with her R.N. in 1964. She worked at Montreal Children's and Calgary's Foothills Hospitals and then enrolled at Dalhousie University for her Public Health Degree. Evelyn worked in New Glasgow, Pictou and Berwick. Surviving are sisters, Daphne McCarther, Halifax; Eleanor MacAskill, Somerset; nieces, Linda McCarther, Nancy (Frank) O'Sullivan, Sandee (Rick) Webster; nephews, Scott (Debbie) McCarther, Ken (Cathy), Brian (Donna), Donald (Vicky) MacAskill. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Ronald McCarther and John MacAskill. She had a great interest and talent for woodworking and needlework. Since her retirement, Evelyn had a passion for golf, and enjoyed her game. She made many beautiful quilts. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, in the Berwick Heights Golf Course, 3060 Hwy # 221, Weston. Interment service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 2, the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert, with Rev. Clarence Clark officiating, with a reception to follow. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Fund, 23 Earnscliffe Ave., Wolfville, N.S., B4P 1X4. Evelyn's family would like to thank Dr. Merryweather and the nurses in Oncology at A.V.R.H. with special thanks to pharmacist Gerry, who took the time to answer her questions and ease her mind. Many thanks to Dr. C. Todd, who gave her support through her illness. To her many kind friends who helped support her through this difficult time, thanks for your help with chores, visits and treats. The family would also like to thank the Victorian Order of Nurses and Homecare who took such good care of Evelyn in the final stages of her illness.
