Arno
Hansen
March 17, 1932 – June 25, 2022
HANSEN, Per "Arno" – of Kingston, Kings Co. It is with broken hearts that the family announces that on Saturday, June 25, 2022, Arno Hansen passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years in Grand View Manor in Berwick.
He was born on March 17, 1932, in Søllerup, Denmark, the son of the late Hans and Ingeborg Hansen. He was predeceased by his sisters, Inga, Birte and Lise; his brother, Poul; and son, Blair.
Arno was in the Danish army, completing the mandatory training required, where he received his education in Auto Mechanics. He came to Canada, through Pier 21, at the age of 24, with his toolbox and promptly got a job on Barrington Street on his first day here. Later, he met Colleen (nee Dorey). They married and he opened "Arno's Auto Repair" garage in Wilmot, where you could get your car fixed and have a beer at the same time! Arno was also known in the valley for being the go-to mechanic for work on imported cars.
Approximately 10 years later, he went to work at CFB Greenwood as a Small Engine Repair Technician and retired from there.
Arno was one of four founding members of the Bluenose Auto Sport Club, founded in 1969 in Dartmouth, NS. He and friends participated in local rallies and he did a Cross-Canada rally. Arno was a simple meat-and-potatoes kind of guy. He loved to putter in his shed and around his property in Nictaux, in his clogs. He was devoted to his wife, Colleen and they were married for 52 years. She loved him deeply.
Arno and Colleen both enjoyed curling out of the Middleton Curling Club and the social times shared with friends: curling, singing, and dancing. He enjoyed travelling with Colleen, gardening, camping, and reading. Coffee and Keith's were his beverages of choice which he enjoyed while watching Formula One racing on Sundays.
He enjoyed reading the newspaper and listening to the news four times a day. He could fix anything at work or in the house!
He's already missed immensely by his wife, Colleen; children, Sonja Hansen-Bent (Trevor); Susan Aldred (Jeff); Gary Hunt, all of the Annapolis Valley; and Britt Kjelstrup-Hansen, of Denmark. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a future date. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the caring doctors, nurses and staff of Grand View Manor in Berwick. Donations in memory can be made to the Grand View Manor and Diabetes Canada.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting www.middletonfuneralhome.com
