Obituary

CHARLTON, Arthur Dean ~ (1933-2020), it is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, brother and grandfather, Arthur Dean Charlton on March 19, 2020, at the Grand View Manor, Berwick, at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his loved ones as he peacefully made his transition into heaven. Art was born at home on June 7, 1933, in Kentville, Nova Scotia, and was the son of late Eugene and Leona (Boates) Charlton. Art served in the Canadian Armed Forces all over the country and later transferred to the Greenwood military base in the 70's to raise his two children and finish out his lifelong career as a Supply Technician. He earned his highest ranking in the Air Force as Warrant Officer. In his youth, Art played basketball on his high school team at KCA and continued to play in the military where he took on his claim to fame playing against the Harlem Globetrotters. A true sports fanatic, he loved baseball, hockey, and bowling where he cleaned up with dozens of trophies and prizes. He loved to dance and was well known around the Evangeline beach community as the swing dance champion. Many years later he spent his days touring all over the province as "Hockey Gramp", watching his grandson's practices and games. He is survived by his children, Donna (Gord) and Stephen (Ann). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Frances, Andrew, Katie, Ryan (Candi), Michelle (Dave), and Kent and his great grandchildren, Callie, Mya, Chloe, Mason, Willow and Stevie. He is also survived by his sister, Irene and his long time, friend Ruth. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Donald "Chick" Charlton. Affectionately known as 'Grampie', he made his way through life in a quiet yet impactful way. His kind heart and selfless nature was felt by many over the years and also extended to all of his furry friends. He continually demonstrated his love and his pride for his family and he was happiest when surrounded by them. He will be deeply missed. There will be no scheduled service at this time but a private ceremony for the family and close friends will take place in the summer.
