Obituary

DeEll, Arthur LeRoy - age 94 of Forest Glade, NS, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017, in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born October 16, 1922, in Berwick, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth DeEll of Kentville. Arthur was a Second World War Veteran joining the Royal Canadian Army in 1941; taking his training in Quebec. He was a Private and worked at the Army Pay Office in Halifax for years. After the war, Arthur worked for years for C.M.Ells, in Port Williams as an egg grader. He also worked for Bruce MacKenzie in Middleton and farmed for a few years. Arthur was a member of Margaretsville Baptist Church. He loved playing his guitar and harmonica and was known throughout the valley as a country music performer. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family whom he loved dearly; especially his grandchildren. Arthur is survived by daughters, Shirley (Lawrence) Silver of Springfield; Sylvia DeEll (Warren Morse) of Kingston; Christine (Jeffery) Saltzman of Melvern Square; Edith DeEll (Kenneth) of BC; Maryann DeEll (Stephen Faulkner) of  East Margaretsville; Verna DeEll (Richard) of Halifax; sons, Arthur DeEll  (Diane) of Hamilton, ON; James DeEll (Bev) of Burlington, ON; Jerry DeEll (Tanya) of Auburn; Dean DeEll of Forest Glade; 24 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his wife, Esther Evangeline (Downie); sisters, Jessie, Edith, Lilly and Iola; brothers, George and Arley and his grandson Larry Hannam. Visitation will be held 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 24, 2017 with Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Interment will be in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square. Family flowers only please.
