Obituary

Aubrey Vernon Little- Age 93 of Margaretsville, passed away Friday, June 20th at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born September 10, 1931 to parents Guy Hartford and Leora Little (Ward), Aubrey lived in Margaretsville most of his life, attending school in the one room school house that was located right next to his home. At the age of 14, Aubrey went to work on a farm on the South Mountain and other farms in the valley through the years, from there he went to work in the woods at logging camps, working from Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. During his times in the different camps he worked at numerous jobs from camp cook, which he was very good at, driving the horses bringing out the logs, cutting down the trees with a buck and crosscut saw and then eventually hauling them. In 1953 when Aubrey was twenty-two he met Betty (Aldred) and were married in 1957; they were married 65 years. They have three children, Karen Gayle (Steven) Allen, Kenneth Guy (Adele), and Seldon Gordon (Kim). During their first years together before marrying, Aubrey joined the Air Force, but after a short enrollment he realized military life was not for him and returned home. Aubrey could never be accused of not being a hard worker, for a lot of his working years he was self employed having had dump trucks at different times and a tractor trailer, finding work was not hard for him. Aubrey also travelled to Ontario to pick tobacco and when the harvest was done would head to the states to pick apples. At home he also had a small hobby farm, multiple gardens and various fruit trees and bushes around the property which he enjoyed taking care of. Another enjoyable pastime for Aubrey was cards, particularly Crib, being a long-time member of the legion, he was able to play throughout the Maritimes at various tournaments. Once retired Aubrey and Betty purchased RV's at different times and enjoyed travelling around NS to attend Hank Snow shows or just going on day trips, and always accompanying them was their loving Valley Bulldog Babe. Over the years they had numerous Valley Bulls and if you were to see Aubrey and Betty driving around, you could be sure their canine companion was with them. Other than their animals a constant presence at their home as they were growing up were their grandchildren, Ashley, Whitney, Chaunce, Matthew, Lisa and Kim. And then later their great-grand children, Kaleb, Liam, Peyton, Kinsley, Morgan, Mackenzie, Madden, Summer, a new one on the way, Emily & Koen. Aubrey will be sadly missed by his daughter Karen Allen, Margaretsville; sons Kenneth (Adele) Little, Margaretsville; Seldon (Kim) Little, Margaretsville; grandchildren Ashley (Adam), Waterville; Whitney (Will), Oromocto, NB; Chaunce, Middleton; Matthew (Mary), Margaretsville; Lisa (Andrew) Canmore, AB; Kim (Justin), Ardoise; great grandchildren Kaleb, Liam, Peyton, Morgan, Mackenzie, Madden, Summer, Kinsley, Emily & Koen; brothers Frank (Elaine), Greenwood; Arthur (June), Nictaux; Caroll, Kingston. Aubrey was predeceased by his parents Guy and Leora, wife Betty, brothers, Neil, John, and Elwin and son-in-law Steven. The family would like to thank the VON and Palliative care team for their continued care of Aubrey while he was home since his diagnoses, the care he received at Valley Regional and his doctor, Dr. Ajayi who was patient and considerate with Aubrey. In keeping with Aubrey's wishes, cremation has taken place.
