Obituary

APPLEBY, Barbara Jean – age 80 of Kentville passed away on December 22, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Mosher's Corner, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Slocomb) Bent Following graduation from Middleton Regional High School she was employed at the Royal Bank in Middleton. After her marriage to Donald Appleby in 1956, they resided in Middleton and were active members in the United Church. Her husband's employment led to a move to Halifax until his retirement. Barbara welcomed the move back to the Valley and to be nearer to their cottage on the lake. She enjoyed her privacy there and her small flower beds and wildlife. She was an avid bird watcher both at the lake and at home. Friends and relatives were entertained at barbeques and boat rides. She is survived by sisters, Dorothy Beals and Lucy (Roger) Fowler, Middleton; sisters-in-law, Mary Bent, Middleton; Betty Bent, Berwick; Phyllis Bent, Victoria Vale and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, brothers, Malcolm, Lloyd and Gilbert, Jr. Bent. Cremation has taken place. The family extends a special thanks to the girls from Careforce for their faithful and compassionate care of Barbara. Thanks to her neighbours and longtime friends who cared and kept in touch. A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Middleton Funeral Home , 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Visitation and reception will follow the service. Private family interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society; Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a Charity of Choice.
