Barbara Evangeline Lewis

It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara (Neaves) Lewis announce her death on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the age of 86. Born October 2, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Charlotte (Sabine) Neaves of Port Lorne, Nova Scotia.

Barb met her loving husband, Amos Lewis, in Port Lorne. She married young, at just 16, making her wedding dress as a home economics project. As a young couple, Barb and Amos bought farmland on Brinton Road where they raised their family and cared for Barb’s parents in their golden years. Barb continued to live on the family farm for four years after the premature death of Amos in May 1985. In the fall of 1989, Barb moved to Middleton, where she lived with Marcus until her passing.

In her younger years, Barb was active in political life along with Amos. They participated in activities at the local and provincial level, including annual conventions and lobster dinners. In her spare time, Barb enjoyed making crafts of various kinds – knitting, latch hooking, and decorating beach rocks. She was also an avid collector of salt & pepper shakers.

Barb will be warmly remembered for her wonderful home cooking, especially the comfort foods. The smell of homemade bread was a weekly tradition and best when paired with macaroni and tomato soup (or as Barb called it, worms). Barb was skilled at cooking, baking, and preserving. From roasts and stews to doughnuts, cookies, jams and jellies, all were delicious.

Barb is survived by her children, Jeff, Nictaux; Marcus, Middleton; Pam Talbot (Darren), Halifax; granddaughters, Tracey Lewis, Lawrencetown; Ashley Taylor (Scott), Clarence; Jodi Tait, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Nora Weir (Raymond), Paradise; Goldie Sabean (Kenneth), Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. Barb was predeceased by her husband, her older siblings and their spouses, Vernon Neaves (Frances); Doris Sabean (Donald); siblings-in-law Garnett Lewis (Jacqueline); Evelyn Corbett (Ernest); Juanita Healy (Fred); Harold Lewis (survived by Lillian); St. John NB, and Gordon McFarlane.

The family would like to thank the care providers at both Valley Regional and Soldiers’ Memorial for the exceptional and compassionate care that they provided.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Fundy View Cemetery, with Pastor Danny Smith officiating. A reception will follow at the nearby Fundy Hall.

Donations may be made in Barb’s name to the Fundy View Cemetery or Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation.
