Obituary

MacLean (White), Bernice Marilyn ~ After a life well-traveled, Bernice MacLean (White) passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Bernice was born August 29 th , 1935 in Berwick Hospital. She graduated from Teachers College in 1954. She loved her career as a teacher; she also loved her 26 years of retirement. Never one to sit idle, she was an active member of the Retired Teachers Organization, the Women's Institute, the Atlantic Baptist Women Association,  Bible Study Groups  and she enjoyed countless hours at the bridge table. She always loved handicrafts, going to craft shows and in retirement she rekindled her love of quilt making and embroidery. Mom's beautiful quilts, some 30 years in the making, clothes, runners and pillow cases are wonderful heirlooms. Her work often won prizes at local exhibitions. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the weekly Lexicon. She and her daughter traveled extensively and every moment of every travel day was spent learning the history and seeing the sights. She often marveled at the fact that she got to stand in Red Square – something which was inconceivable in her youth. Mom consistently demonstrated grit and determination throughout her life. She was an incredible mother and role model. She was predeceased by her son, David James White and her first husband, Edwin Maynard Leslie White. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth MacLean; daughter, Dawn; daughter-in-law, Michelle Demone; step-daughters, Lisa and Michelle; granddaughter, Larissa and many close family friends. We wish to thank  Mid-Valley Palliative Care and in particular, Janet Welton for her sincere care and compassion which meant the world to Mom. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. 902-825-3448.
