Obituary

BALCOM, Bert Ingram - April 1 st 1932- January 7, 2021, of Nictaux, Annapolis County, passed away on January 7, 2021, in Shannex Blomidon Court in Greenwich. He was born in Hastings, Annapolis County, at his grandparents' home which belonged to the Davis Lumber Company. He was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy Balcom of Hastings and later moved to Nictaux.  Bert met his wife Nellie while driving taxi and were married in 1953, sadly Nellie passed away in 2012. He worked 15 years for the Department of Transportation and then with Charles Thompson and later with Roy Hiltz Construction before starting his own business in 1972 which is Bert Balcom & Son Excavating. Bert had many interests which included hunting, fishing, gardening and of course politics, which he was always willing to participate in a debate. In his younger years he was a member of the Nictaux & District Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by daughters, Christina (Karl) DeCoste, Wilmot; Wendy (Keith) Sheridan, Nictaux; and son, Bobby Balcom (Alana Thompson), Nictaux; grandchildren, Josh (Elizabeth) Sheridan, Hammonds Plains; Jesse (Melinda) Sheridan, Bedford; Kelcey DeCoste, Toronto, Ont.; and Garrett DeCoste, Nictaux; also, three great grandchildren, Ben, Alex and Nellie; sister, Alma Aalders, Shannex Blomidon Court in Greenwich; brothers, Charles Balcom (Marilyn Hibbs) Nictaux; Terry (Laverne) Balcom, Nictaux; and Joey (Audrey) Balcom, Nictaux. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Nellie Balcom; parents, Charles and Dorothy Balcom; sister, Marjorie Pelton; brothers-in-law, Robert Pelton and Douglas Aalders. At Bert's request cremation has taken place.  Due to public gathering restrictions a memorial service by invitation will take place in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Leon Langille officiating, with interment in Nictaux Cemetery.  A live webcast of the service will be available for viewing on the funeral home website at 1:55 p.m. AST, Monday, January 11, by selecting the "Live Stream" option at the top of the home page.
