RISTEEN, Bertha May ~ Age 88, of Bridgetown, formerly of Middleton, Annapolis Co., passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Tyne Valley, P.E.I., she was a daughter of the late Colin and Myrtle (Lidstone) Ramsay. Bertha left home at age 15 and moved to Toronto and then with some friends to Montreal where she started her family. She worked at various jobs over the years, waitressing, food services, car rental, and also a stint as a radio operator at a bush pilot base in Northern Quebec. Years later, she met and married Raymond Risteen of Mount Hanley and they moved to the valley. She worked as a Personal Care Worker for many elderly clients and volunteered for over 15 years with Mid-Valley Palliative Care. She was a member of St. Monica's R.C. Church, Middleton; a member of the Catholic Women's League and for a time, she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed travelling and shopping and was a member of the Red Hatters Association and the Clan Ramsay. Bertha is survived by her children, Debbie Robert, Johanne Robert, Richard (Annie) Robert, all of Quebec; step children, Jim, Larry, Beth and their families; brother, Cecil (Emilie) Ramsay, Summerside, P.E.I.; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and sisters, Bertha was predeceased by her husband Raymond in 2004. A celebration of life service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, in St. Monica's Roman Catholic Church, Middleton, with Father Keith Billard officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Many thanks to the caring owners and staff of Saunders Rest Home, Bridgetown, for their loving care of Bertha over the past nine years.
