SMITH, Bessie Gertrude (Barkhouse)- 86 of Smiths Cove, passed away Monday, August 30, 2010 in Upper Granville. Born in Farmington, she was the youngest of eleven children born to the late Jared David and Lillie May Barkhouse. Bessie spent much of her younger life in the Annapolis Valley and has many relatives in the area. Most of the last years of her life she spent in Smiths Cove, where she enjoyed her knitting, puzzles and bingo with her friends. She was a decisive woman, who willingly shared her views and opinions, a trade-mark of Bess. Bessie also baked the best apple pies, knit the most exquisite baby clothes and was quick with her wit and humor. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Bessie is survived by her husband, Reginald Wallace Smith, Smiths Cove; children, Linda Sanford; Lois Stevenson; Judi MacDonald; Jerry (Frenchy) Stevenson and Gail Smith.
