Obituary

COVEY, Bette Kathleen - age 92 of Middleton, passed away at Grace Haven Home for Seniors on February 17, 2018. Born in Moncton, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Harris and Bertha (Christman) Joyce.  She lived in Moncton N.B., Dartmouth, and Ottawa, Ont. before moving to Middleton, in 1983.  Bette was a proficient crewel embroiderer and became an enthusiastic chorister after moving to Middleton.  She took great pleasure in the simple things in life, and was well known for her love of anything purple, butterflies and bears. Bette is survived by her son, Michael McAllister, Victoria, B.C.; daughter, Jayne Thomas, Ottawa, Ont.; stepdaughter, Judi (Eric Marshall), Middleton; and stepson, Bob (Francine Lapointe) Covey, Ingleside, Ont.; grandchildren, Sandra (Darren) Johnston, Bridgewater; Andrea (Dave Hey) Marshall, Jeddore;  Andrew Marshall, Halifax; Savannah and Austin Thomas, Ottawa, Ont.; Sarah McAllister, Victoria, B.C.; great-grandchildren, Alex (Emma Martell), Halifax; Tyler and Hanna Johnston, Bridgewater; and several great-grandchildren in British Columbia and Ontario.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, William "Bill" Covey; her sisters and their husbands, Molly (Cam) Pickard, Malagash and Carol (George) Proctor, Moncton, N.B., and her first husband, Edward McAllister, Ottawa, Ont. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Donna, Brenda and the staff at Grace Haven for the kind and compassionate care provided to Bette over the past five years.  To her dear friend Phyllis Bennett, your love and support brought great joy to Bette, you knew how to brighten her day. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448. Rev. Elizabeth Amirault officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place in Paradise Cemetery.
