Obituary

MacDONALD, Blair Waldo ~ Age 66, of Garland, Kings Co., N.S., passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Sherbrooke, Guysborough Co., N.S., he was a son of the late Calvin A. and Mary J. (Lutz) MacDonald. Blair had worked at various jobs in his adult life; from hauling chicken with David Brown's, to hauling bread and pies with Sarsfield's. He also spent some time in construction/carpentry, then moved to Valley Waste Resource Management as a utility worker until his retirement in 2024. Blair made friends everywhere he worked, sometimes lifelong ones. Everyone that met him knew him as a kindhearted and humorous person, but quick to let you know if you weren't doing it "by the book". He was an avid collector of various treasures and quick to offer a helping hand, drive, or presence. Blair loved his son dearly and spoke proudly of him often. He was especially integral and helpful in moving Alex and Haley and their fur family convoy home from Alberta, and in the initial years with their various projects he was the first to be there with supplies or to help. Blair will be remembered and dearly missed by his family, friends and community. Blair is survived by his son, Alex (Haley) MacDonald; brother, Bruce MacDonald; sister, Linda Darroch; nieces, Sarah, Kate (Cody), and Michelle (David); grandnephews, Thomas, Joe, Landon, Nathan, Ben, Jacob and Luke; step-grandchildren, Kirkland, Mikayla, and Amelia; as well as numerous grand fur babies, most notably his good buddy, Axel. Blair is predeceased by his stepdaughter Samantha Reese. All are welcome to attend a time in celebration of Blair's life that will take place from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, in Black Rock Community Centre, 4078 Black Rock Road, Black Rock. Interment will take place in East Black Rock Cemetery, with Rev. John R. Hannem officiating. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Jolly Workers. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
