Obituary

WINOTT, Blake Arnold, Kingston, Kings Co. Blake passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89, on December 27, 2015 with his family by his side. He was a true gentleman who touched the lives of many. Born on April 9, 1926, in Harmony, Blake was the son of the late Archibald and Gladys (Banks) Winott. During his lifetime, Blake always worked in some aspect of the lumber business. He began his career at the Rockville Notch Mill. After his short stint in the war, he continued his career at E.R. McMaster & Sons Mill in Kingston, eventually becoming part owner. After his retirement, Blake spent many happy hours in his hobby workshop where he turned out quality woodworking projects. While working at E.R. McMaster, Blake met his future wife, Clara Gertrude Graves whom he married in 1951. They settled in Kingston, and it is there where they raised their family. Blake's life was centered on his family, church and community. He was a member of the Kingston First Baptist Church, where he served as past Deacon as well as a member of the men's choir, the Kingston Volunteer Fire Department and as Village Commissioner in addition to participating on many village committees throughout his lifetime. He will be sadly missed by his son Darrell (Linda) Winott, Nictaux, and daughters Darlene "Darcy" (Jim) Murray, Amherst and Cynthia Winott, Houston, Texas; sister Mary Lavigne, Kingston; grandchildren William Murray, and Edward Murray; step grandchildren, Andrew (Joselyn) Gentile and Cara Gentile; step great grandchildren, Haley, Noah, Sylvia and Tabitha. Besides his parents, Blake was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Clara; son, Eric; sister, Genevieve Slauenwhite; brothers Archie, Paul and Alden. Visitation will be held 2pm – 5pm, Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 2, 2016 with Reverend John S.Beers officiating assisted by Rev. Paul Bannister. Interment will be in the North Kingston Cemetery. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Harmony Baptist Church or a charity of choice. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. McGuire and to the Palliative Care Team at Annapolis Valley Health Palliative Care Services.
