Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Brenda Doris Langille, of Brooklyn, Annapolis Co., N.S., age 75, completed her lifetime journey on Monday, March 16, 2026, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown.  Brenda fought a long and arduous battle with Early Onset Alzheimer's disease for the last two decades. Our mother grew up in Middleton with her brother, Karl and sister, Gail, where she attended Middleton Regional High School. As a teenager she loved camping and playing field hockey.

Our father and mother met their destiny when Mom drove her younger brother, Karl, to piano lessons taught by our father Leon. She went on to Teachers College in Truro and earned her teaching license shortly thereafter. She spent many of our younger years travelling around to find that coveted permanent teaching position. Our father was a wonderful fill in for her at home during those years as she beat the pavement. Mom went on to secure that coveted job and spent much of her career at MRHS in the resource department where she left lifelong impressions on many of her students.

Our mother loved spending all her summer vacation at her family cottage on Zwickers Lake. My brother and I endured many long days and nights there with her in the early 1980's without tv, movies or AC. At the time we were less than impressed when she urged us to quit complaining and read a book. These days are now fondly remembered and revisited at the same cottage during the summer months.

She was a thrift shopper before thrift shopping was cool too. She would spend little to no money on clothes that neatly stuffed into giant garbage bags and provided years and years of fashion prowess for Nathan and I. I came to look forward to those trips as a teenager because I could always strong arm her into buying all sorts of items and I ended up with a huge wardrobe as a result. I now recall those trips with adoration as I now see that she really just wanted to spend time with me. Mom loved to pick any kind of berry as well to make various types of jam. She began this as a teenager and kept it up every season until her illness prevented her from going any longer. During those years she picked in my backyard to my chagrin. Mom loved to pick strawberries in the extreme heat but did not pass that love on to Nathan nor I, but we loved her jam. She made some mean pickled beets and mustard pickles as well.

Brenda has been and will continue to be missed by her husband Rev. Leon Langille, of 55 years; son, Nathan (Lisa) Langille; and daughter, Noelle (Mark) Messom; her brother, Karl (Muriel) West; and her grandchildren Ian, Jenna, Lillianna and Ewyn.  Nathan, Dad and I extend our most heartfelt gratitude to the earth angels at the Lodge, who cared for Mom over many years of her illness and helped ease her into her afterlife. We are eternally grateful. All are welcome to attend a time in celebration of Brenda's life at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448, with interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton.  Donations can be made to Mountain Lea Lodge or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
