NORMAN, Brian Allan passed away on the morning of July 17, 2014, at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on January 2, 1940, in Weyburn, Saskatchewan to the late Herbert and Marcella (Carr) Norman. Brian joined the navy in 1959 working in the electrical trades, sailing from the port of Halifax and when he had seen enough of the world from the bow of a ship transferred to the air force in 1969, moving his family to Winnipeg, MB. A posting to CFB Greenwood followed in 1973 and he finished his military career in Greenwood after serving 30 years. Brian was one of the original air crew members trained to fly the Aurora aircraft when it was brought to Greenwood. Brian had a passion for wood working, and loved nothing better than to have a piece of oak in his hands and to create something wonderful for his family and friends. His cutting boards are works of art and his furniture has been sent all over Canada and England. He made wonderful tables and bedroom sets for his family and loved making bunk beds for his grandchildren, or anyone else's children, the most. He was the oldest and longest serving member of the Wood Hobby Club in Greenwood, a fact he was very proud of, and felt very special, honored and loved that Sunday the gang from the Wood Hobby Club came out to the house to build him a ramp. Thank you so much for your time and hard work. Anyone that knew Brian knew that he was the happiest and in his glory covered in sawdust or working on new designs for his latest masterpiece. At the time of his passing, Brian was just four weeks away from celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his wife, Mary (Blanchard), daughter Cheryl and her husband Tim Martell-Norman, son Jeffrey and his fiancé Cheri Cameron, grandson Jamie Knowles and granddaughter Mackayla Reese-Norman. Also surviving are brothers Douglas (Doris), Michael and Patrick (Mercedes) and sister Arlene. Brian was also very fortunate to have an extended family to love and spoil: daughter Alison Mahar and her husband David Bowlby; grandsons Connor and Devon Bowlby, Catlin and Justice Reese, Christian Cameron and Jace Martell; granddaughters Amber Cameron, Jordyn and Darienne Martell. Besides his parents, he was predeceased in 1992 by his daughter Karen. In keeping with Brian's wishes, visitation will be Monday, July 21, 2014 from 7pm to 9pm at the Middleton Funeral Home and a celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 1pm at the Middleton Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery, Ellershouse, Nova Scotia at 3:30pm, with a reception to follow at the Ellershouse Community Hall. Family flowers only please, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation, the Oakhill Cemetery or the charity of one's choice. The family would like to say a special thank you to the medical personnel who helped take care of him: Dr. Yafai and his secretary Allison; Dr. Bowes, Dr. Merryweather, Dr. Burgess and Katrina Patterson; and all the nursing staff on the Medical and TCU wards at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.
