Obituary

VARNER, Brian Lee 66 of Kingston passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kingston, he was the son of Nellie (Comeau) Varner, Berwick and the late Lloyd Varner. Brian was an independent distributor for Farmers Dairy. He was a former 25 year member of the Kingston Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for 5 years. Brian was the recipient of the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal and the Nova Scotia Fire Services Long Service Medal. He was a former 5 year auxiliary member of the Kingston Detachment of the RCMP and a member of Citizens on Patrol with his wife, Mary. Besides his mother, Nellie Varner, Grand View Manor, Berwick, Brian is survived by his wife, the former Mary Sheppard; daughter, Kathryn (Owen) McCarthy, Dartmouth; stepsons, Trevor (Angelia) Forrester, New Brunswick; Robert (Jeannie Parent) Forrester, Truro; stepdaughter, Elizabeth (Steven) Avery, Kingston; grandchildren; Hanna Forrester, Colleen McCarthy, Liam McCarthy, Jessica Avery and Brent Avery. Besides his father, he was predeceased by an infant brother John David. Cremation has taken place. A memorial register is available for signing at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, where a private family service will be held, Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment will be in the North Kingston Cemetery. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia.
