Bruce Jeffery Bishop

He was born and bred to be a fighter, and on Wednesday, August 24th, 2026, his final bell rang. He was, without a doubt, the toughest gentleman we have ever known. Throughout his life, he faced challenges that would have broken many people, but he never gave up. He beat the odds time and time again, and when the fight became the hardest, he fought until the very end to stay with us. His strength, determination, and courage were matched only by the size of his heart.

But beneath that strength was a man who cherished his family and the people he loved more than anything. Bruce treasured us all. His wife, his children, his grandchildren, his family, and the friends he considered family were the most important parts of his life. His love was not always found in grand gestures; it was in the everyday moments, the stories, the laughter, the time spent together, and simply being there.

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, Poppie, son, brother, uncle, coach, and friend.

Bruce was a true outdoorsman who found happiness in the simple things in life—fishing, hunting, being outside, and taking car rides with no destination in mind. He loved PEI, lighthouses, beaches, and especially the sound and power of big waves crashing along the shore. These were the places where he felt most at home.

A lifelong Maple Leafs fan, he loved hockey and baseball, but one of his greatest joys was coaching. He loved being on the sidelines, teaching the game, encouraging the kids, and watching them grow. To him, coaching was never just about sports. It was about building confidence, making connections, creating friendships, and making memories that would last a lifetime.

Family was at the centre of his world. He was the proud father of five children—one son and four stepchildren—and the cherished Poppie of 10 beautiful grandchildren. There was nothing quite like a big family dinner, surrounded by the people he loved, with stories being told, laughter filling the room, and everyone gathered around the same table.

He also had a gift for making people feel like they belonged. His friends were never just friends. Once you were in his life, you became family. He loved deeply, fiercely, and without hesitation.

He leaves behind his best friend, his wife, Katherine; his five children, Devin (Jadzia), Lucas, Brandon (Katie), Gordon (Allana), and Mary Katherine; 10 grandchildren; his twin brother, Brian (Jodi) and their two boys, Cain and Xavier; two sisters, Linda (Cecil) and Susan (Bob); a brother, Billy; and his dad, Bruce, along with several nephews, two great-nephews, and two great-nieces. He will also be deeply missed by the many friends he welcomed into his heart and proudly called family: David, Charlie, Dave, Junior and Bernie.

We are comforted in knowing that Brucie is pain-free and at peace, surrounded by his sweet mom Alice, brother Big Mike and nephew Little Mike, who also left us far too soon and are missed deeply. We know that they are sharing memories and catching up, seated at a table, patiently waiting for us all to join the family dinner.

Brucie leaves behind so much more than a list of names. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, fishing trips, hunting stories, hockey games, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, family dinners, long car rides with nowhere to go, days spent at the beach, trips to PEI, lighthouse hunting, big waves, laughter. arguments that nobody remembers the reason for, stories that will be told over and over again, and countless little moments that seemed ordinary at the time but will now become some of our most treasured memories.

Perhaps the greatest lesson his life leaves us with is that, in the end, we are all just memories in the hearts of the people we leave behind.

And now it is up to all of us to make sure the memories we create from this day forward are worthy of carrying on.

We need to keep gathering around the table. We need to take the drive with no destination. We need to go to the beach and watch the waves. We need to cheer a little louder from the sidelines, laugh a little harder, tell the stories, make the memories, and most importantly, love our people fiercely while we have the chance.

Because life is not measured only by the years we are given, it is measured by the moments we create within those years and by the memories we leave behind in the hearts of others. His fight may have ended, but his legacy has not.

It lives on in his children. It lives on in his grandchildren. It lives on in his wife, who was his best friend. It lives on in his family, his siblings, his dad, his nieces and nephews, and in every friend, he welcomed into his heart. It lives on in every child he coached, every person he encouraged, and every person whose life he touched.

We will carry him with us in the places he loved, in the things he taught us, in the stories we tell, and in the memories, we continue to make.

And when we look at the ocean and hear the waves crashing against the shore, when we gather around a crowded family table, when a hockey game is on, or when someone suggests taking a drive with nowhere to go, we will think of him.

We will miss him more than words can ever say. But we will also be grateful—for the love he gave us, for the time we had, for the fight he fought, and for every memory he left behind. Because in the end, we may all become memories, but we have a choice in the memories we leave behind.

May ours be filled with laughter, adventure, kindness, and above all else, love. May we make them memorable enough to carry on long after we are gone. And may every beautiful memory we create from this day forward carry a little piece of him with us. The fighter may be gone, but his heart will never stop beating in the lives of those who loved him.
