HILTZ, Bruce Leroy-66 of Greenwood Square passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 3, 2012 in Kingston. Born in Kingston, he was a son of Elsie (Bruce) Hiltz, Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville and the late Roy Hiltz. Bruce began working at a young age with his father at Roy Hiltz Construction, Kingston. He went on to spend 11 years with the Department of Transportation as a foreman at the Berwick Depot and then seven years for the Kingston and District Fire Commission where he served as Custodian at the Kingston Fire Hall. He was a faithful member of the Kingston United Baptist Church, where he served terms on the Board of Management as a trustee and currently as an usher and teller. He loved his years with the Kingston and District Fire Department and began serving at the age of 18. He completed 45 years with the Fire Department and held offices as Lieutenant, Captain and 15 years as Deputy Chief. He also served a term on the Kingston Village Commission as Public Works Commissioner. Bruce also faithfully worked for the Liberal party on the election sign crew. He was a gentle, caring family man whose biggest smiles came when he was interacting with his three grandchildren. Besides his mother, Bruce is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Judith Lightizer; daughter, Angela (Shawn) Lumsden, Regina, SK; sons, Dr. Jeff (Tish) Hiltz, Muncie, Ind; Derek Hiltz, Sylvan Lake, AB; grandchildren, Jordan, Jenny and Justin Hiltz; brothers-in-law, Glen Lightizer, Kingston and Blaine (Joyce) Lightizer, Donnellys Brook, Kings County, NS. He was predeceased by his father, Roy; brother, Sharon and father and mother-in-law Arch and Ruby Lightizer. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448 where visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00PM, Sunday, April 8, 2012. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00PM Monday, April 9, 2012 in the Kingston United Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
