PARKER, Bruce William ~ Age 97, of Berwick, formerly of Waterville, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a brief illness. Born on April 5, 1927, in Aylesford, Kings Co., N.S., he was a son of the late Frederick and Marcella (Knowling) Parker. Bruce was the last surviving member of the Parker family.
Surviving are his wife, partner and best friend of 52 years, the former C. Joy Young; his children, Pamela Parker, Victoria, B.C.; Anne (Barry) Losier, Hubley, N.S.; Shelley (Paul) McDonald, Ottawa, Ont.; Anthony Parker, Dartmouth, N.S.; Jill (Gary) Powers, Hubley, N.S.; Joy's daughter, Debra Wilkinson (Audrey Jones), Princeport, N.S.; three grandchildren; a great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by Joy's son, John Wilkinson; sisters, Genevieve (William) Onysko; Constance (Joseph) Pagliaci; brothers, Stuart (Kathleen) Parker; Garnet (Lois) Parker; and Vaughn Parker.
Bruce joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, and served at Greenwood, Winnipeg, Torbay and back to Greenwood, where he retired after 27 years in 1978. After his retirement, he was employed by the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick for a number of years. Bruce and Joy enjoyed many years of camping, travelling across Canada and the eastern United States. Curling and golfing were sports he enjoyed right through to his 90's. Bruce was a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, Berwick.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. 120 Mill St., Berwick. Rev. Fr. Michael Walsh officiating, with a reception to follow in the Parish Centre. Interment will be in Berwick Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to Berwick Food Bank or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. The family wishes to express their many thanks to the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department and Medical B at Valley Regional Hospital for the wonderful care given to Bruce during his short stay.
