McKNIGHT, Burton "Burt" Roy - age 75 of Auburn, Kings Co., NS, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Sussex, NB, he was the son of the late Harris and Isabel (Callaghan) McKnight. Burt graduated from the Business Program at Saint John's Vocational School in 1961. He then was employed with Consolidated Bathurst Packaging travelling the Maritimes and Maine for 25 years. In 1987 he purchased a grocery store in Auburn known as Burt's, passing the business on to his son Jeff in later years. Burt enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and Friday night card games. He and his wife Esther travelled extensively over the last 20 years. Burt loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, the former Esther Wright; daughter, Jill Greene of Wellington, Halifax Co.; son, Jeffrey (Ellen) McKnight of Auburn; sister, Barbara (Robert) McLaughlin of Mississauga, ON; brother-in-law, Irvine (Heather) Wright of Rothesay, NB; grandchildren, Sarah, Brooke, Fallon and Ashton; two nephews and several cousins. In keeping with Burt's wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7 to 9 PM, Friday, November 25, 2016 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 from where a celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 26th with Rev. Mel Malton officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Auburn. By request, family flowers only please.
