SHORTEN, Calvaretta Florence "Cal" ~ Age 95, of Kingston, Kings Co., passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021, in Annapolis Royal Nursing Home. Born on July 28, 1926, Saskatoon, Sask., she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Hill) Richards. Calvaretta was a graduate of Halifax Infirmary Nursing Registered Nursing program and had worked at various places. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, holding many offices over the years including past Grand Matron and past Grand Martha. Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Anderson, five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Roberta Clarke, Ottawa, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Shorten; daughter, Kathryn Braillard; brother, Ted Richards. There will be no public visitation or funeral service. A private committal service will take place in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Middleton, with Rev. Mel Malton officiating.
