Carl Stanley Ryan
12 Aug 1932 - 06 Jul 2017
Master Warrant Officer, RCAF, Retired
LIFE LEGACY
Carl completed his final pre-flight check, pushed the throttles forward and slipped away, peacefully in Kentville, with his family at his side on 06 Jul, 2017 at the age of 84. Born August 12, 1932, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to the late Lionel (QC) and Muriel (McEwan) Ryan, Carl's memory will be cherished by his beloved wife, Hazel (nee Spencer), of 66 years; his daughters, Lynn (Russ) Amiro, and Carla (Eric) Findley; his sons, William (Eva), Leigh, and David who predeceased (Cindy); and close family friend-Sherry Baltzer. Proud "Grumpy" to Shannon, Colin, Shell, and Jason who will miss him dearly, along with great grandchildren – Malcolm, Beaudin, Finley, Abby, and Nathan. Sister, Patricia (Patrick) Berrigan and brother, Dr. William (Patricia) knew him as a wonderful brother and friend. Carl joined the RCAF in 1949, and spent the majority of his career as a maritime patrol flight engineer – primarily on Lancaster, Neptune, and Argus aircraft. His tours included Summerside, PE and Greenwood, NS. Although all the Squadrons he served with were excellent, his principal allegiance has to remain with his beloved 405 Squadron. He retired in Greenwood after 31 years of military service. He was known to demand high standards in aircraft maintenance and flying operations. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched. Family and friends are invited to visit at Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton on Monday, 10 July from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in Queen of Heaven Roman Catholic Chapel, Church Street, 14 Wing Greenwood on Tuesday, 11 July at 10:00 a.m. with Father John MacPherson officiating. A reception will follow in the Chapel Annex. A private family interment at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Kingston will follow the reception. We wish to thank Dr. Yafai and Allison for their medical care and friendship. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Valley Regional Hospital that cared for Carl in his final days. By request, family flowers only. Donations in Carl's memory can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. An online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
