Obituary

Szczerbaniwicz, Casmir "Smitty" - November 2, 1933- March 19, 2023, Age 89 of Kingston, Kings Co., Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Born in Alvena, Saskatchewan, raised in Vonda, SK where he graduated high school at the age of 16. Smitty moved to Winnipeg to begin his working career at 18 when he joined the RCAF where he had a 33-year career, with postings all over the world. He loved all sports but he and Joan found their passion in golf in their forties and he could be found playing golf up until he was 89. Predeceased by his parents, Ernst and Catherine Szczerbaniwicz, his in-laws, Frank and Maisie French, his daughter, Janette Bell, his two grandsons, Christopher and Jonathan Bell and his son-in-law, Trapper Simmonds.  He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Joan; his son and daughter in law, Gary (Jackie); daughter Kim Simmonds; daughter and son in law, Lori (Terry)Richmond; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  I would like to say a big thank you to our unofficial adopted daughter Trudy Simmonds, who has been a rock for our family. I would also like to thank the VON nursing and home care teams for all their caring support and services in our time of need.  A huge thank you to Janet and Amanda, our palliative care team, who helped to guide us through our most difficult time. There will be no viewing or funeral.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St. toll free: 1-855-825-3448.
