Obituary

Charlton, Charles Arthur – Age 91, of East Kingston, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023, surrounded by his family. He will be fondly remembered as a loving family man. He especially loved spending with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Born June 5, 1931, in Berwick, he was the youngest son of the late William and Ruperta (Balcom) Charlton.

Art served in the RCAF from 1952 - 1978. During his years of service, he was stationed in Greenwood (NS), Germany, Chatham (NB), and Montreal (PQ). He was an avid sports player and played on many teams during his 26 years of service. After retirement, Art was employed with the Paragon Golf Course maintenance department for over a decade. He was a long-time member of Kingston United Baptist Church and of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 98, Kingston. Art loved to play cribbage and darts.

Art is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley (Merrill); daughters, Jeanette (Randy) MacDougall, Wicklow, NB, Melinda Charlton , Dartmouth; Anne (Michael) Wood, East Kingston;  Jennifer "Jay" Charlton, Fredericton, NB; sons, Ralph "David" (Lynn), Waterville; John (Cindy), East Kingston; Grandchildren: Jamie MacDougall, Matthew Spinney (Terri-Lynn), Eric MacDougall (Amanda), Danielle Wood, Emily (Adam), Amanda, Andrew, Kate, Cameron, and Jacob. Four great-grandchildren Easton, Jaxson, Connor and Maryn. Four nephews Paul (Rosemary), Dewayne (Kelly), Kevin (Beth) and Gary.

Besides his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his brother, George.

Visitation will be held 6-8 pm, Thursday, February 9 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Funeral service will be held 2pm Friday, February 10 in the Kingston United Baptist Church, with Rev. David Hopper officiating. For those unable to attend the service there will be a livestreaming of the service available at 1:55 p.m. AST by selecting the 'livestream' option at the top of the funeral home webpage.  A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in North Kingston Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Kingston United Baptist Church, Upper Room Food Bank Association, or Kingston Legion Branch 98.
