Charles "Charlie"
Peter Macdougall
November 10, 1922 – November 4, 2019
MacDOUGALL, Charles Peter "Charlie" ~ Age 96, of Millville, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019, in the Veterans Unit of Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on November 10, 1922, in Morristown, he was a son of the late Peter Alexander and Ethel May (Hodges) MacDougall of Halifax and Aylesford. Charlie's childhood years were spent growing up and attending school in Halifax and working on the farm with his uncle Percy in Harmony. He worked at various jobs until 1950, when he joined the Canadian Army, where he served in the Korean Conflict, retiring from the services in 1969. Charlie decided to move back to Aylesford, where he found employment with Farmers Dairy, making butter and becoming a foreman for a brief period of time. His love of woodworking led him into carpentry with Reg Baltzer, later deciding to go on his own, where he helped build various structures. Charlie kept busy doing home renovations until it was time to retire. He kept abreast of what was going on in the world and loved to converse over the news, weather, sports and politics. Charlie was an enthusiastic fan of hockey, baseball, football, tennis, curling and Craig Oliver; rallying around the television for playoffs, opens, tournaments and Question Period became a fun pastime for many years. The travelling bug often got him out for a drive to see the valley and enjoying a bite to eat and the changing colours of the leaves during autumn always warranted such an excursion. He found delight in music; old fashion gospel and country western music were closest to his heart, also playing his own tunes on the harmonica and keyboard. Charlie did not rest on his laurels later in life but took pride in maintaining the homestead, spending time in the kitchen making delicious meals, bicycling in his late seventies; throwing spares at the Fairlanes Bowling Alley, earning his high school diploma during his eighties and recently trying his hand sketching again. Charlie profoundly valued and treasured the comradery he shared with his close neighbours and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife the former Marjorie (Taylor) Lutz; sister, Florence Shunamon. He is survived by a daughter; two grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew; three step children; four step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild. All are welcome to attend his visitation from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448, and from where a private funeral will take place. Rev. Leon Langille officiating, with interment in Morristown Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to War Amps or Hearts on Ice. Many, many heartfelt thank yous are extended to " All " who attended to Charlie during his time in the Veterans Unit. Thank you for the wonderful care given to him and the compassion shown to him.
