CHISHOLM, Christena Rankin - 83, of Middleton, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2012 at Grandview Manor, Berwick NS. Daughter and 7th child of the late Dan L and Louise (MacLeod) Rankin of Mabou Harbor, she was born on April 15, 1928 and raised at the Harbor. She moved to Halifax in 1946 to pursue a career as an executive assistant. She worked with various psychiatrists, the Department of Welfare, CN Rail, both in Halifax and Hamilton, ON, and later, with her sister-in-law, Jean C. MacPherson's law firm in Antigonish. Known for style and flair, Christena was a woman a generation ahead of her time. She married Frederick Hugh Chisholm of the Antigonish Landing in 1959 and together they raised three children, settling in Middleton, NS in 1968. She was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church and a founding member of the Catholic Women's League in Middleton. She loved to dance in the kitchen, enjoyed good fiddle music and was known for her fine bread and date squares. She had a fondness for animals, in particular, cats, and always had one by her side. The resident cats at Grandview Manor provided her great enjoyment during her time there. The last surviving member of her family, she was predeceased by her daughter Deborah Bent Page, husband Frederick, and siblings Mary Catherine Rankin, Kay MacInnis, Don Roddy Rankin, Alec Rankin, Florence Wedge, and Jack Rankin. She is survived by sons Timothy (Marion) Chisholm of North Kingston, Terry (Sara) Chisholm, of Middleton, son-in-law George Page, of Berwick, grandchildren Kaitlin, Lauren, Bryson and Cameron Chisholm, Emily and Ellen Bent, and Scott Page. Visitation will be held 1:00PM - 3:00PM and 7:00PM - 9:00PM Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Monica's Roman Catholic Church, Middleton, NS on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 11:00AM with Father Gerald Saulnier officiating. Family graveside service at St. Ninian's Cemetery, Antigonish, NS will take place at a later date.
