Diane would like to thank everyone for their kind words shared. It brings much comfort to her and the family.
Austin, Clarence Harvey – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence "Clay" Austin, after a lengthy illness. Clarence (82) passed away peacefully Sunday, February 5, 2023 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Doaktown, NB, he was a son of the late Earsel and Gwen (Mitchel) Austin. The family later moved to Marysville, NB where Clarence grew up until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He spent 35 years proudly serving his country, retiring as a Capt. Navigator. During his military career, he was posted to many bases across Canada, retiring at CFB Greenwood. Clarence always found his years flying on the Argus and later on the Aurora exciting and challenging. Some may have thought he was a shy man but once you got to know him, you realized he had a strong opinion on most subjects. Clarence was a member of the Greenwood Golf Club for many years and enjoyed the game with friends until HE DIDN'T - then the clubs went to the end of the driveway! Good times were spent at the family cottage on Lake George where many friends and family were the recipients of his friendship and much fun, especially his next door neighbour and good friend, Ron. Saturday afternoons you would find the two of them enjoying a beer on the back deck and reminiscing! It was during an early posting to Greenwood that Clarence met his wife, Diane and they celebrated 60 years of married life. Their daughter, Laurie Lee was born in Fredericton, NB. Regretfully, she passed away suddenly in 2014 at the young age of 51, leaving Clarence and Diane devastated and their lives changed forever. Clarence leaves behind to mourn his wife, Diane; grandchildren, Abby Wilson, Ian Wilson, Alberta; step-granddaughter, Erin Wilson (Mike) Steyn, BC; brother, David (Evelyn); niece and nephew, Melanie & Chris and grandnephew, Maddox, all of Winnipeg. Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by his daughter, Laurie Lee and his brother, Malcolm. We will always miss and lovingly remember you, Clarence, Love, Diane, Abby, Ian, and Erin. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin McGuire, doctors and staff of Heart of the Valley LTCC, Middleton, doctors & staff of Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and the Veteran's Wing, Dr. Matthew Targett and staff of Grand View Manor, Berwick, Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, and Middleton Funeral Home for their care shown to Clarence. As per Clarence's wishes, there will be no funeral service. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation, or a charity of choice.
