ELLIOTT, Claude Fritz - (1917-2015) Passed away peacefully on March 4, 2015, at Mountain Lea Lodge, his home for the last 21 months. The son of Vera Myrle (Fritz) and Stuart Harry Elliott, he was a life resident of Clarence, Annapolis County. From the one-room schoolhouse, he relied on horse and buggy/sleigh to take Grade 12 in Lawrencetown and then graduated with a BA (Economics) in 1940 from Acadia University. Returning to Clarence, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen, in 1942 and raised their family and ran a mixed farming operation until retirement. Claude loved to sing and his children fondly remember his singing of hymns on clear spring and summer mornings to call the cattle in for milking. Very active in community life, Claude was a life- long member of the Clarence Baptist Church (Deacon) and involved in the NS Fruit Growers, Federation of Agriculture, County 4-H Council and 4-H Club. He was recognized for his countless years of volunteer work with the Annapolis Valley Exhibition and was a Director with Kings Mutual and active in the formation of the Credit Unions. Well known for his beautiful singing voice, he was in the Lawrencetown Men's Choir and was always willing to share his music at weddings and funerals around the area. Claude was also proud of his 74 year association with the Evangeline Lodge of Free Masons, acting in a number of positions including Master. Claude is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Helen Louise (Bishop) and children Sharon (David) Longley, Margaretsville, Anne (Gordon) Flewwelling, Round Hill and Eugene (Carol O'Neill) Elliott, Sand Lake; grandchildren Chris (Michelle), Jeff (Brooke), Kevin Longley and Barb (Blair) Bond; Ron (Melanie) and Julia (Jacob Crowell) Flewwelling; Miranda (Chris) Bates and Morgan (Becky Lavers) Elliott; Michael (Christy Langille)O'Neill and Sean (Meagan Osburn) O'Neill; great grandchildren Meryn and Cameron Longley; Aiden, Reese, Jaylon and Hershel Longley; Evelyn, Sarah and James (BJ) Downie; Mathilda and Beatrice Bates; Charlie and Piper Elliott; Dagen, Erin, Hayden and Brooklyn O'Neill; Kieran and Adeline O'Neill; great - great grandchildren Sheamus Elliot and Jack Downie. He was predeceased by brothers Kenneth, Earl and Harold. Our father and grandfather taught us many life lessons. He was a fair and just leader and generous to one and all. He truly loved life and always enjoyed making new acquaintances, playing cards, doing his daily puzzles and watching his favourite Toronto Maple Leafs. Even when he was no longer able to live at home, he showed keen interest in the active life at Mountain Lea, especially in the people and the music. Claude's biggest joy always came from spending time with his beloved family members and he was blessed to have many around him over his last few months. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed. The Elliott family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and residents of Mountain Lea Lodge for their wonderful care and their friendships. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, June 20, 2015 in Clarence Baptist Church.
