Obituary

ACKLAND, Claude Wood Bill-85 of Meadowvale, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Devon, England, he was a son of the late Robert Claude and Ivy Amy Dorothy (Burnell) Ackland. Bill was a retired flight engineer, having served with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War and later mustered into the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1948. He enjoyed fishing, sailing and camping and later in life enjoyed motorcycling. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Conrad, Greenwood; sons, Lawrence Ackland, Florida; William (Carolyn) Ackland, Kingston; Rick (Deborah) Ackland, Aylesford; sister, Eileen Pynch, Plymouth, England; grandchildren, Sacha, Teri, Cari, Erin, Evan, Sally, Melanie, Robert and great grandchildren, Rylee, Destiny, Kaige, Jaiden and Poppy. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Ella Springer, sister, Irene and brother, Lawrence. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service for Bill and Ella Ackland will be held 2:00PM, Sunday, September 12, 2010 in the Middleton Funeral Home. 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448.
