Obituary

WALLACE, Clive Wilson 92, of Middleton passed away peacefully in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital June 21, 2010. He was born April 7, 1918, in Milan, Italy, the son of the late Helen and William Wallace, who were serving there during the First World War. Clive spent his early years in Toronto joining the Royal Canadian Navy, just prior to the beginning of the Second World War, where he served as a communicator (signalman) on a frigate in the North Atlantic during the war. He was a quiet and deeply sentimental man, telling us he had served in the North Atlantic "but not much happened there" and still used a table knife he had taken from home when he first joined the navy. He had long since lost the fork and spoon! After the war, returning to Toronto, he held several jobs, one being a bus driver with the transit system, taking his little daughter on runs with him. Later he started with the Toronto School Board, retiring as chief custodian at Blaydon Avenue School, in early 1980s. Shortly after retirement he and his then wife, Olive (Grey) relocated to Middleton where he had resided from that time. Clive had many interests, chief of which was his beloved music. His Lowry organ and trained baritone voice gave him and others, fortunate enough to hear him, many hours of enjoyment. He had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and also the Masonic Order for a short time. Clive is survived by his wife, Emma (Tibbetts); daughter, Robyn and stepchildren who grew to love him. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Lorne; first wife, Dorothy; second wife, Olive. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 24, beginning with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute at 7 p.m. in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where the funeral will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 25, Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be to Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of choice.
