Obituary

GOULDEN, Clyde Stanley -Age 95, Aylesford, finished his journey 12 December 2014, at the Veteran's Wing, Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS with his daughter Doreen at his side. He was the son of the late Effie and Merton Goulden of North East Harbour NS. He was predeceased by his best friend and loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis (Hiltz); his step-brothers, Earl and Barney and his son in law Allison Rawding. Clyde was a gentle man and gentlemen, who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he encountered. He will be lovingly remembered by his step-brother Carl (Shirley) Goulden of Ingomar, son Lewis (Cecilia) Goulden, Duncan, BC, daughter Irene (Harry) Robillard, Nanaimo, BC and his daughter Doreen Rawding, Aylesford, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grand-children and 5 great great grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his good friends Jimmy (Linda) Hughes, Miramichi, NB. Clyde joined the North Shore Regiment at the age of 24, on 25 May 1943 as an Infantryman. He served his country proudly in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe until his discharge "On Demobilization" 14 September 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal. Clyde was very proud of his war time unit and travelled yearly to Bathurst for the annual reunion. Clyde was a proud Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 98 Kingston and its serving Honorary President, a position he had held for nine consecutive years. He attended numerous functions within the province representing Branch 98 of the Legion with honor and distinction. He participated in the Remembrance Day programs yearly by visiting and partaking in local school programs, graveside dedications, and banquets. An avid crib player he played every Thursday evening at the Branch a long with every afternoon with his friends, and travelled with the Legion crib chowder run for many years. Clyde was a member of the Branch Veteran's Committee ensuring events were carried out for the Veteran's and their spouses or widows. He absolutely loved the Nova Scotia International Tattoo and all it stood for, he went so far as to be one of their storesman into his early 90's when with broken heart his legs said it was time to quit. Visitation for Clyde will be from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 Wednesday December 17, 2014, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18th at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 98, 1472 Veterans Lane, Kingston, with Comrade Wade Seymour, Branch Chaplain officiating, burial to follow at St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery in Auburn, Rev. Ruby Carter officiating. A Legion reception will be held at the branch following burial. Donations in memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 98, Poppy Fund or charity of one's choice.
