Obituary

BENNETT, Darlene Susan ~ After a difficult illness and hospitalization for the past seven plus months, it is with sadness that we, her siblings, announce the passing of Darlene Susan Bennett.   Darlene passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on the evening of Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, with family by her side.  Born January 18, 1960, in New Albany, Annapolis Co., N.S., she was the second daughter of the late Norman and Sheila (Stewart) Llewellyn.

Darlene was a graduate of Lawrencetown High School in 1978, had completed the Business Secretarial course at Middleton Vocational School in 1979.   Her work career saw her starting work at Hanson Dowell's law firm in Middleton, then to N.S.C.C. Ackerly in Dartmouth and upon returning to the Valley she worked at Kingston Superstore.

She enjoyed watching the birds, especially cardinals, music, going for drives to Port George and stopping at Pearle's for an ice cream, and spending time with her family.

Darlene is survived by siblings, Wendy (Milford) Porter, Pam D'Aubin, Don Llewellyn and Bob (Trudy) Llewellyn; nephews, Daniel D'Aubin and James Llewellyn; and nieces, Dianna Llewellyn, Elizabeth Llewellyn and Emily Bennett; great nephew, Loeto; aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by parents; paternal grandparents, Charles and Elsie Llewellyn; maternal grandparents, Don and Lena Stewart; sister, Cheryl Llewellyn; sister-in-law, Nancy Llewelyn; brother-in-law, Tim D'Aubin; her first husband, Glendon Hinds; and second husband, Eddie Bennett.  She very much missed her faithful companion, Radar.

A special thank you to the Surgical, Medical and ICU staff at Valley Regional Hospital for their excellent care of Darlene over the last seven months, and in particular to Dr Suiter and Dr Ozon and the care teams on Medical A for your compassionate care to Darlene.  Also, to all the Victorian Order of Nurses and home care workers who looked after Darlene over the last few years – thank you for all you did to allow her to stay in her own home!
