PALMER, Darlene June - age 78, Millville, Kings Co., passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 25, 2015, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with her loving husband, Alton by her side. Born and raised in Dalhousie, N.B., she was the only child of the late Helen (Pallen) and Earl Young. Darlene graduated from Moncton Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1957. She nursed in New York, Moncton, Kentville, Middleton and Berwick Hospitals over the years. Darlene also worked at the Waterville Hospital (K.R.R.C.) and as a V.O.N. Nurse throughout the Annapolis Valley. Her last career was working with Lois Hare at Valley Naturopathic Clinic, Berwick. Darlene also helped her husband, Alton run his fiberglass business and small farm all while raising their large family and caring for her parents when they became ill. She loved her family, her gardens, birds, butterflies, scrabble and always made sure that anyone who came to the house left with a full belly. Darlene took great pride in her role as a mother, grandmother and mentor to many other people and truly cared. An avid letter writer throughout her life, she learned to email, text and use Facebook to communicate especially through the last year of her illness. Darlene had a tremendous sense of humour and loved to have fun, even after she could no longer verbally communicate; her giggles and snickers provided joy to her family and caregivers. Darlene was instrumental in the re-opening of the Millville Community Hall. She belonged to the Nicholsville Garden Club and the African Violet Society and was a former member of the Berwick & District Board of Trade. Darlene had many friends throughout the entire Annapolis Valley and will be missed. That spark and laughter will be especially missed by her caring husband of 45 years, Alton E.
