Roche, Darlene Marie ~ age 62 of Kingston, Nova Scotia, passed away at home on Sunday, January 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Berwick, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Whitney and Geraldine (Wagner) Wood.
Darlene devoted over 40 years of her life to cooking, first with Seaforth's Rest Home and later with Liberty Lodge, where her dedication and care were deeply appreciated. She loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing, and was a passionate baseball fan—most notably cheering on her beloved Toronto Blue Jays.
A proud athlete, Darlene was honoured in 2025 as an Inaugural Inductee with the Greenwood Girls Bantam Softball Team (1977–1979), which proudly held an outstanding record of 32 wins and 1 loss.
Above all, Darlene cherished her family and the time spent with those she loved. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Raymond Roche of Kingston; daughters, Melissa Roche (Justin Arenburg) of Springfield and Jessica Fowler (James Chute) of Youngs Cove; sisters, Faye Wood of Aylesford, Nancy (Sam) Cassar of Hillsburn, Bonnie Wood of Kingston, and Judy Yohnke of Middleton; brother, George Wood of Kingston; grandchildren, Delilah Prall, April Muir, Nova Fowler, and Alley Fowler; step-mother, Sheila Wood of Deep Brook; step-sister, Mona Baker-Deveau of Digby; step-brothers, Steven Handspiker of Deep Brook and Tony Handspiker of Musquodoboit Harbour; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Darlene was predeceased by her brothers, Whitney Wood and John Wood.
In keeping with Darlene's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held in North Kingston Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00–4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in the Aylesford & District Fire Hall, 1083 Park Street, Aylesford. All are welcome to attend.
