Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Daryl Wayne Baxter on Thursday, March 6th at his home in Middleton, Nova Scotia. Daryl was very recently diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer. Fortunately, at the time of his death he was surrounded by his dear family: his partner, Jenn; and his children, Autumn and Finn. These three people were the absolutely dearest to Daryl: they were his family as well as his best friends. Jenn, Autum and Finn will miss him tremendously. He will also be missed by their dog, Bear, their two cats, Widow and Bethy, as well as assorted birds and two goats.

Daryl had a great, generous, open heart. He was not unlike a teddy bear in human form. He was kind, gentle and compassionate. He had his struggles but somehow managed always to live with his heart open. He was funny and silly. From the time his children were very young, he always tried to see the world from their point of view. He was an awesome dad.

Daryl had a great affinity for animals and nature. His connection to the beauty of the natural world was profound. It was a spiritual connection. He was a gifted photographer.

In 2021, Daryl, Jenn and family moved to Nova Scotia to be near the extended family Daryl felt closest to. He will be sorely missed by them and family back in Ontario.

Daryl was predeceased by his parents Joan (Laidman) and Ray Baxter of Caledonia, Ontario and his biological parents Daniel Kelley and Sheila Deadder. He is survived by several siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To remember and honour Daryl we will have celebrations of life in the summer in both Nova Scotia and Ontario. Dated to be announced on social media. Donations in Daryl's name can be made to Scouts Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, or a charity of your choice.
