Obituary

CORKUM, David Melvin ~ age 79 of Kingston, NS passed away at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton on September 15, 2020 with his wife at his side after having a long, hard battle with cancer. Born in Bridgewater on May 15, 1941, he was the only child of the late Laurie and Hildred (Mosher) Corkum. David was a resident of Bayport, Lunenburg Co. before moving to the Annapolis valley in 1986. David was in the automobile business for 50 years as a salesman, sales manager, general manager and owner/operator. He was a former member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rose Bay, Lunenburg Co. when he served on the church council. David took great interest in minor hockey when he served on the executive for many years and was head coach of the Lunenburg Minor Hockey Association. He was a lifetime fan of his great Montreal Canadiens. David loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and working around his property. He was a past member of the Bluenose Golf Club and an active member of Paragon Golf Club in Kingston for 30 years. He was also a 21 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No, 98, Kingston.  David is survived by his wife Debra (Slauenwhite) Corkum; son, Paul (Deanne) Corkum, Aylesford; his step-daughter, Tammy (Adam) Lutz, Berwick; grandchildren, Pasley and Kedrick Corkum, Aylesford, Olivia and Owen Lutz, Berwick; sister-in-law Vicki Cobham, Berwick. As per David's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, September 23, 2020 in the North Kingston Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Christine Marie Gladu officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the IWK Health Centre, Halifax, and Soldiers' Memorial Hospital or to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank David Pineo, Auburn; Watson Armstrong, Kingston, special friends and golf buddies. Also to thank a good neighbor Sharon Griffith for all that she had done for David when he was ill.
