David Archibald
Geddes
August 26, 1941 – June 14, 2025
Geddes, David Archibald – Age 83, of Kingston, NS, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Halifax, he was the beloved son of the late Frank and Marion (McDonald) Geddes.
David dedicated 30 years to the Royal Canadian Air Force, beginning as a firefighter before later serving 12 years as a civilian fire chief at CFB Halifax. His career took him on three tours in Germany, where he was instrumental in fostering friendships between Canadian and German firefighters. His commitment to service led him to retire at the rank of Captain, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and camaraderie.
Following retirement, David remained deeply committed to his community, serving as President of Legion Branch #98 for eight years, always leading with generosity and a profound sense of duty.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Carol (Simpson) Geddes; cherished daughter Lori (Brad) Smith, Kingston; and treasured grandchildren Darcy Smith, Greenwood; Adam Smith (Emma), Cape Breton; and Zoe Geddes (Brett), Kingston. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Peggi Giffin, Milford, NS; brother Don Geddes, Ottawa, ON; and many adored nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter Nadine; sister-in-law Emma Geddes; and brother-in-law Perry Giffin.
David found immense joy in being a grandfather, proudly celebrating the accomplishments of Darcy, Adam, and Zoe. Whether cheering them on or engaging in fiercely competitive crib games - where "winner takes all" - his love for family was boundless.
A lifelong sports fan, David's passion for golf often led him to the course (and occasionally into the woods, in pursuit of wayward golf balls). His sharp wit and good-natured humor made every round an adventure.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Janet Welton, the Palliative Care team, and Mareki Home Care - Sam, Dana, and Andrea - for their compassionate care, which allowed David to remain in the home he loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025 in Royal Canadian Legion Branch No 98, Kingston with Chaplain Wade Seymour and Pastor Tammy Giffen officiating. Interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or Royal Canadian Legion Branch #98 – Poppy Fund.
