Obituary

Bill (David William) Wentzell, age 77, of Nictaux, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved family on March 20, 2024. Born in Brickton, Nova Scotia, Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories.

Bill's devotion to his family was unparalleled. He was a loving husband of 55 years to Sharon (Johnson), a dedicated father and hero to his treasured children; daughter Melanie (Jason Thistle), and his son and best friend Trevor.   His grandchildren, Emma and Austin Thistle, brought him immeasurable joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

For 24 years, Bill proudly operated Bill's Irving in Brickton, where he served his community with integrity and kindness. His commitment to his business and the people he served left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Beyond his business life, Bill had many other passions. He always had an impressive garden, from cucumbers and tomatoes to blueberries, all of which he loved to share with his family and community.  Bill also loved farming, from planting to harvest. He was a member of the Crossburn Snowmobile Club, and proudly operated the groomer for the trail users to enjoy. He and Trevor shared an incredible passion for building custom sheds from lumber they milled themselves.  Bill and Trevor's skillful craftsmanship brought beauty and functionality to many homes and gardens of friends, both old and new, throughout Nova Scotia. Bill's love for these hobbies brought joy to those around him and showcased his knowledge and creative spirit.

Additionally, Bill leaves behind an adored extended family who loved him unconditionally, along with a community of friends and neighbors who will deeply feel his absence. He brought warmth and joy to those he encountered, and his memory will be treasured by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Over the many months of Bill's cancer journey, affectionately referred to as the man with the DeWalt bag, he was blessed with many 'angelic' health care workers.  Each, and every one, of these new friends will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his family.

Although Bill may have left this world, his legacy of love, hard work, selflessness, kindness and whit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace knowing the world was a better place because of him!

Cremation has taken place. "In keeping with his wishes," a private family service will be held at a later date to celebrate Bill's legacy. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley VON, the Carey Me Fund or the charity of your choice.
