Dean Lantz
Saltzman
June 21, 1935 – October 18, 2025
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Dean Lantz Saltzman - 90 of Meadowvale, NS.
Born in Port Williams, NS to Floyd and Zelda Saltzman. Dean is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Betty (Coutts); daughter, Nancy Bezanson, of Somerset; sons, David, of Meadowvale; John (Linda), of Chester; and Dean (Karen), of Western Shore; sister, Eleanor Publicover, of Blandford; uncle, Murray (Dorothy) Salsman, of Grafton; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; as well as his sister-in-laws, Jean Hartman and Janet Mackow; and his brother in-law, George Coutts, of Alberta. He was predeceased by his sister, Marion White; and brother in-laws, Denis White and Lee Publicover; and grandson David Bezanson.
Early in his career Dean established an auto body repair shop in Chester. In 1968 he was appointed as one of the original instructors at the Vocational School in Middleton where he taught for 26 years. He then joined his son, David, at Dave's Collision Works. Dean was a natural tradesman and could build or fix whatever he chose. In retirement he enjoyed his summers in Nova Scotia and winters in Florida. Fondest memories with Jerry's Kids, a golfing family at the Greenwood Golf Club, with great golf, competitiveness, support and friendship. Dean was an athlete excelling in baseball, hockey, golf, diving and tug of war. He played baseball with the North Side Royals of Sydney, hockey with the Kentville Wildcats, Bridgewater Hawks and Greenwood Oldtimers. He had eight hole-in-ones. He was a member of the Volunteer Chester Fire Department whose tug of war team won many titles at exhibitions across NS. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, sense of humor, story telling (sometimes rather colorful) and his straightforward approach with family and friends. Time with Scot Cooper and his dog Scotia were Dean's anchor as he became less active due to his health.
Special thanks to Dr. Sue Robinson of the Hematology Clinic in Halifax for her attention to Dean over the past seven years, to VON Nursing support and to the staff at Valley Regional Hospital and Valley Hospice for their compassion and support in the last days of Dean's life.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.98, 1472 Veterans Lane, Kingston. Family flowers only please. Donations in Dean's memory may be made to Valley Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free, 1-855-825-3448.
