Obituary

FOSTER, Dolina MacLeod "Dollag" ~ Age 77, Middleton. With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing on March 18, 2019, of Dolina MacLeod Foster, beloved wife of 40 years to Bruce Foster, darling mother of Christine Bishay (Samy) and Richard Keith (Cynthia Durling), devoted grandmother of Fiona Ogden (Tim), Ryan, Ben, Katrina, Jody, Shenia, and Nicholas, and delighted great-grandmother of Nolan and Logan. Born November 5, 1941, at 9 North Bragar on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland, the second child in a family of seven, Dollag was raised on the family croft and educated at the Nicolson Institute and the Jordanhill School of Education in Glasgow, Scotland. She began her career as a teacher in a deprived area of the city at the age of 19. A tough start, but she took it in her stride. Dolina's attachment to her family and place of birth was powerful. Nevertheless, in 1973, she immigrated to Canada with her two young children where she continued her career as a talented teacher who could spot the potential in each student and support them to success, over a span of 21 years. A strong and courageous person, Dolina coped with lifelong chronic illness as if it were a minor nuisance. She lived a full and happy life devoting tremendous energy and dedication to her career while indulging in her twin passions of travel and gardening. She enjoyed time at her cottage on Rumsey Lake. Oskar, her faithful spaniel companion of the past 10 years, was a great comfort to her. Predeceased by her parents, (Donald/Johan MacLeod); parents-in-law, (Ralph/Fayetta Foster); brother, Murdo; and sister-in-law, Judith; she leaves her sorrowing family, two sisters, Effie and Kathleen; along with three brothers, Calum Iain, Derrick, and Kenny, and many nieces and nephews in Scotland and Canada. The family are grateful to the nurses and doctors in Palliative Care at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, and to Dr. Jonathan Trites, Dickson Centre, Halifax. A teacher in life and in death she donated her body to the Dalhousie University Department of Medical Neuroscience for the advancement of Medical Science. Interment of remains in Pine Grove Cemetery will take place privately at a later date. Donations in Dolina's memory can be made to Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton, Twelve Baskets Food Bank, Nictaux, or Mid-Valley Palliative Care, Middleton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, 902-825-3448. On-line guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
