Donald George
Armour
October 15, 1940 – November 28, 2018
With the sadness of loss and the celebration of a life well lived we announce the death of Don Armour on November 28 at the age of 78. Born in Middleton, he was the son of the late George and Mabel (Bubs) Mattinson Armour. He moved as a child to Antigonish where his parents operated the Royal George Hotel for many years. Working in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario, Don became a bank manager with RBC and then TD. He left banking and returned to Halifax as a financial consultant. Don had many friends in Nova Scotia where he co-founded the BMW Car Club and organized numerous trips with avid skiers to Europe, eastern U.S. and western Canada. He could often be seen strolling along Spring Garden Road and sharing a cup of java with friends in local coffee shops. He will be missed.
Don was predeceased by his parents and son Allan Armour. He is survived by daughter-in-law Terri Armour (late Allan) and her daughter Tia Small (Matthew), daughter Lori Campbell (Graham) and children Aaron and Alyssa, all in Ontario. He is also survived by sister Susan Ketchabaw (Wayne) Thunder Bay and children Tim, Tami, Karri and Mark, by his sister Nan Armour, Halifax, several cousins, grand nieces and nephews and six great grandchildren. Don also leaves to mourn his longtime friends Barry, Elaine, Bill and Mike.
There will be no service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Middleton Funeral Home. Private interment will occur in Pine Grove Cemetery in Middleton. The family expresses special thanks to the wonderful staff at Dykeland Lodge in Windsor where he received excellent care.
A celebration of Don's life and a sharing of stories will take place on Saturday, December 8, 2:00-4:00 pm at the Chocolate Lake Hotel, 250 St. Margaret's Bay Road, Halifax.
In recent years Don was involved in the restoration of an abandoned family cemetery where several of his Mattinson ancestors are buried. In Don's memory, donations can be made to the Mattinson Cemetery Society through the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448.
